"Picasso, peintures 1955-1956" Print
BY Galerie Louise Leiris
This vintage poster was made for the artist’s 1957 exhibition Peintures 1955–1956 at Daniel Kahnweiler’s Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris. Printed by Studio Mourlot, Paris, the lithograph uses energetic purple lines to describe three dancing figures who hold hands and raise tambourines. The work is enlivened by passages of green and orange, with exhibition details in its lower half.
(Beginning in 1948, Pablo Picasso made original posters to promote expositions and events such as bullfights for his adopted town of Vallauris in southern France, exhibitions of his art and that of fellow artists, and the cause of peace. In lithographs and linocuts, Picasso applied his restless creativity to poster design, producing striking compositions with favorite motifs and hand-drawn text)
