LLOMA by Marina Lespérance Lopez
Marina Lespérance Lopez is a ceramic artist who has made her mark with her offbeat explorations of nerikomi and various colored clay techniques. They makes her pieces by assembling different colored clays, stacking, juxtaposing, and embedding them in one another. They construct images through all manner of manipulations to create effects that evoke ideas from our collective memory; symbols that are ubiquitous in the visual field we share, motifs inspired by nature as much as the culture. Exploration through play and trial-and-error is the artist's favoured research method, and her playful, spontaneous approach shines through in her pieces. They work in small series, creating visual allegories inspired by their own experiences, intuitively borrowing codes from culture. The result are narrative images evoking themes charged with affect that all can appropriate and identify with in a cathartic way." Marina.
